In a stroke of promotional genius, some cotton company has set up a faux cotton field on the corner of Lafayette and Houston for the weekend. As someone pointed out to me this morning, the Rihanna poster in the background is clearly a racist statement. One of my brown coworkers gamely offered to put on some rags, hunch over, and pick some cotton for a more thorough photo shoot, but she’s only Pakistani. Which would have made it offensive, so I nixed it. See? All grown up now.
